Christmas Contest for $15.00 Strandbucks

With Christmas quickly approaching, I figured I’d love to give one winner an early Christmas present.  The contest is simple.  All you have to do is share one special holiday tradition in the comments and you’ll be entered to win $15.00 Strandbucks to buy yourself a few books on your wish list at Siren-Bookstrand!

Contest will run through Christmas Eve (9:59 pm EST so I can choose a winner before midnight), and the winner will have a present from Santa for Christmas Day.

I’ll start.  No, I’m not eligible for the prize 😉

One special holiday tradition we share in my family is watching Polar Express while enjoying hot chocolate.  My husband and I first saw the movie in the theaters, despite the not-so-good reviews we read in the papers and online.  We LOVED it!  It was a different kind of movie, not filled with talk and action, but lent a wonderful experience and excitement in a subtle way.  I don’t think there is anything I didn’t like about the movie.  Sure, the characters didn’t have names.  Sure, it wasn’t a musical like most children’s movies.  Sure, it had a quirky sense of humor.  To me, the fact that it was different made it special.
I bought it as soon as it came out on DVD.  My son (who is now 9 and still loves the movie) and I watched it, and I’ve turned it into a tradition, something special my husband and I can share with our children.  That same year, Santa brought my son a Lionel Polar Express train, and it goes up under the tree year after year (we’d do my grandfather good, a man who loved his planes, trains, and automobiles, and collected Lionel trains).  This year was the first year my daughter watched it and is enamored by it.  Previously, she’s been too young, but she loves it so much it’s on all the time.  “Chocolate” has become a very common request, as well as “choo-choo train” and “elf”.

But this is what the holidays are all about.  Whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanza, or any holiday, it’s about making memories that last a lifetime, and that can continue from generation to generation.

Merry Christmas,

Happy Holidays,

xoxo

Rhea

Every Christmas Eve, my family drives around and looks at Christmas Lights. We have quite a few neighborhoods that go all out in the decorating department and they are beautiful. We started when my boys, (who are now 20 and 25) were little and have just continued. I can remember just a couple of years back how disappointed they were because it was raining cats and dogs on Christmas Eve and hardly any houses had their lights on. Guess you’re never too old to enjoy Christmas Lights! Thanks for the giveaway! Merry Christmas!

I absolutely love Christmas light gazing 🙂 When I was young, a family friend and her three children, my sister, my mom, and I would pile into our Ford Taurus all fighting who got to sit in the rear-facing “trunk” seat, and we’d tour the neighborhoods. A couple of years, we had hot chocolate with us, a couple we had it when we were done. I loved those days, but it didn’t really continue once they moved out of state. Now, however, my kids love looking at the lights. We drive through our community and look at all the houses. This year, we added a neighborhood that was featured in the paper for its astonishing light show. Definitely fun! Have a very Merry Christmas, Tammy!

On Christmas Eve every year me and my family watch National Lampoons Vacation as a tradition. I am so glad that we are all here to enjoy this time together as a year ago we almost lost my dad to a heart attack and a surgery that was a quadruple bypass. We are thankful every day for these times together as they almost didn’t happen anymore for us.

Oh no, Pamela. That must’ve been a terrible time. I’m glad he pulled through. Yes, each day is a gift, and never one to be taken for granted :). I always get a kick out of that movie! It is hilarious! Chevy Chase is an awesome actor. I love his movies. I will usually catch it once or twice during the holiday season. Then, of course, there’s A Christmas Story that we’ve watched from our little days, lol. My husband can’t stand the movie, but I do, and I’ll watch it once on Christmas day. Everyone else is usually to busy playing with their toys or preparing dinner, lol!
Here’s to you and your family, and many, many more to come 🙂 Have a very merry and blessed Christmas, Pamela!
